KEY POINTS:
A decision will be made this morning on who will ride Sir Slick in Saturday's $100,000 Awapuni Gold Cup.
Bruce Herd, who was to have ridden the horse, was suspended until after Thursday week when found guilty of careless riding in Saturday's $60,000 Waverley Gold Cup.
Herd, on the eventual runner-up The Auld Hussie, was found to have caused interference at the winning post with a round to travel.
He will decide this morning whether to appeal against his sentence, which would almost certainly allow him to ride at Awapuni on Saturday.
The Judicial Control Authority declined Herd's appeal for a one-day suspension and a more hefty fine.
Sir Slick's trainer Graeme Nicholson has an agreement whereby Opie Bosson rides the horse at meetings north of Taupo and Bruce Herd further south.
Herd has been engaged for last-start winner Crossword in the $175,000 Ford Manawatu Sires Produce and for Castlebar in the $100,000 The Oaks Stud Manawatu Classic.
"Bruce wants to talk to a few people and weigh a couple of things up before deciding on whether to appeal," said his manager Brent Wall yesterday.
Queensland rider Shane Scriven has been engaged for Emily Jane in the Manawatu Classic.
"If Bruce decides not to appeal I'll try to get Shane on some of Bruce's rides," said Wall.
