MELBOURNE - Black Caviar, the world's best sprinter, will be long odds-on as she attempts to stretch her unbeaten run to nine, but, fresh from a sizzling trial aboard Hay List on Saturday, the trainer of her greatest rival is not conceding Saturday's A$750,000 Lightning Stakes at Flemington.
John McNair partnered the horse in a trial at Gosford and, after the huge galloper ran his last 600m in 32.5 seconds, warned that punters should ignore the one meeting between the sprinting giants.
Hay List finished 11.5 lengths behind Black Caviar in the Patinack Farm Classic last spring. "Just forget it," McNair told the Age. "There will be no excuses this time around."
Before that race, Hay List had gashed a leg in a paddock accident after super wins in the McEwen Stakes, Manikato Stakes and Gilgai Stakes.
Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody concedes that Hay List is a legitimate threat to his mighty mare.
