Sean Cameron is a realist and giving his horses the best possible winning chances means travelling far and wide.

To that end, the Waiuku trainer is currently campaigning a team in the South Island and following a winning treble at Ashburton last week he is chasing further success at Phar Lap Raceway today.

"I did have them based at Invercargill and we're now at Riccarton," Cameron said.

"Most of my horses have been tried by other people and they are leased or given to me to bring down here. It's about placing them right and the money is much the same here."

Heading his line-up at the South Canterbury meeting is Go Go Gonzo, who will attempt to complete a hat-trick following wins at Timaru and Wingatui when he steps out in the Jo McGartland Memorial Hurdles.

"He's improving all the time and he seems to have grown another leg," Cameron said. "He's been a bit of a natural from day one and he's going to handle the wet ground no trouble."

Go Go Gonzo's current run of form has also resulted in him moving into contention for the Racecourse Hotel & Motor Lodge Sydenham Hurdles on August 8 and the Grand National Hurdles a week later. "There's no reason not to look at them the way he's going," Cameron said.

He also has two strong chances in Hungry Eyes and Amun Ra in the Thank You & Farewell Warwick Coles 1600.

The former is a last-start Ashburton winner while Amun Ra was runner-up at the meeting and Cameron is loath to split the pair.

"It will depend which one handles the ground the best. They are both very well and I'm backing them up because there's nothing for them at Oamaru next week. This will give them three weeks until Riccarton."
