Ruakaka-baseD horse trainer Michael Manson enjoyed the lengthy drive back from Tauranga racecourse yesterday afternoon.
Manson and his partner Paula McLean were rewarded for all the hard work they have put into developing Forrest into a racehorse.
The 4-year-old Gold Brose-sired gelding took his career record to four wins and three minor placings from 11 starts when delivering a determined three-quarters of a length victory over Hailwin and Heza Cool Dude.
"Paula and I got Forrest to train from Ngaire Fraser after we pre-trained a horse called Bronte which won at New Plymouth last Saturday," Manson said.
"Ngaire was that happy with the way Bronte has raced for her that we got this horse to train but he has taken a lot of work to get him this far.
"He's needed plenty of time to learn about things and he's one of the most accident prone racehorses we ever had on our property.
"We have six horses in training and I also do quite a bit of farrier work up in Ruakaka which also helps bring in a bit extra money.
"I've had my training licence for about 18 months and it's something I've always wanted to do.
"Paula and I are getting a real kick out of things with the way Forrest is racing.
"He's won three of his last four starts and I just hope we can attract a few more clients into our stable with the way he's racing at the moment."
Forrest lengthened stride impressively in the home stretch in the hands of regular jockey Lisa Allpress to clear out from the opposition to record the victory.
