KEY POINTS:
It was a tough day at Flemington yesterday for New Zealanders, but former test cricketer Terry Jarvis came away a winner with Rocha, who won the Group Two Wakeful Stakes (2000m).
Jarvis bought Rocha for A$400,000 ($462,588) at the 2007 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
She proved too strong for Miss Scarlatti and Estee in the fillies' staying test. Jarvis, who raced the Group One winning mare Hill of Grace, was a founder of Sky TV and formerly owned The Oaks Stud.
Capecover's tilt at the Melbourne Cup ended when he was third in the Saab. It was a luckless run with Craig Williams unable to get clear space in the straight.
Capecover and Red Ruler will probably run in the Sandown
Classic in two weeks.
The inexperienced My Scotsgrey ran on fairly for seventh in the A$1.5m Victoria Derby.
And if it was a tough day for the Kiwis, the Victorians were shaking their heads in disbelief as the main prizes escaped their grasp.
Dr Doubte's was the only Victorian winner on the card, winning the Group Three Carbine Club
Stakes for Mark Kavanagh.
