You get the feeling it's about to be Tell A Tale's day in the sun at Matamata tomorrow.
Veloce Bella beat the highly talented 4-year-old in the Darci Brahma at Te Rapa last start, but the key was there was only a neck between them.
This time, Tell A Tale meets the equally smart Veloce Bella 2.5kg better off in the weights.
At this level that is result-changing - certainly more than the neck advantage the Matamata mare held last start.
Tell A Tale hasn't won at his past five starts, but those have included some fabulous efforts and this race looks to suit perfectly.
Veloce Bella is a wonderful mare. She deserved that last-start win, but this will be tougher.
She has probably never been better than she is right now, but she will need to be to give weight to Tell A Tale.
Spirits Bay is the value in the race.
She is similarly on the verge of her best form and you can discount her past two unplaced runs.
The last-start Thorndon Mile run when five lengths off Wall Street was better than it looked on paper.
She got back and was making good ground late. The start before, the wet track upset her in the Anniversary Handicap.
This race sets up nicely for her on her position on 53kg.
Fazza is another who could provide trouble. Things didn't go quite to plan in the Wellington Cup, but his second to Red Ruler in the City of Auckland Cup was huge.
Racing: Happy ending for Tell A Tale?
