Stewards said Boss had been inconvenienced at the top of the straight but were not satisfied it had cost Signoff the race.
McEvoy, who was in Sydney, said the intention was to run Big Memory in next Saturday's A$3 million ($3.3 million) Caulfield Cup.
"If he pulls up well he goes to the Caulfield Cup," the trainer said.
McEvoy said he was concerned to see Big Memory lay out off the rail.
"He has never done it before but he has come a long way and is a very good stayer," he said.
Let's Make Adeal looked a challenger in the straight but peaked on her run to finish another head away third while German stayer Protectionist, who carried topweight with 59kg and has the Melbourne Cup as his target, delighted jockey Craig Williams with the way he ran on for fourth.
"The way he closed off, I was very impressed with his run," Williams said.
Later on the card, Trust In A Gust posted successive group one wins with a fighting victory in the Toorak Hcp.
Giving everything for Brad Rawiller, Trust In A Gust travelled outside the leader before he hit the front at the 300m.
The 4-year-old set up a clear lead at the 200m although there was no shortage of chasers.
As his opposition approached, Trust In A Gust ($4.60) continued to find for his jockey and he safely held the fast-finishing Speediness ($19). Desert Jeuney ran on in the centre to take the minor placing.
Trainer Darren Weir said Trust In A Gust would now be considered for a start in the Emirates Stakes on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. "What a ride," Weir said. "What a great horse to train. Sound. Tough. Makes his luck."
