KEY POINTS:
Talented galloper Party Crasher lived up to his name at Rosehill, especially for punters who backed the short-priced favourite Guillotine in the Winning Edge Presentations Handicap.
Guillotine, a half-brother to Melbourne Cup winner Efficient, started the $2.05 favourite in the 1400m race while Party Crasher had some supporters and was backed from $10 to start at $9.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Party Crasher hit the lead on the turn before birthday boy Nash Rawiller went for home and the 5-year-old skipped away to score by 2 1/2 lengths over Guillotine.
The latter boxed on gamely but didn't appear to handle the going which was upgraded from a heavy to slow after three races.
Rawiller, who celebrated his 33rd birthday, brought up a treble aboard Party Crasher following victories on the Waterhouse-trained Ultimate Risk and Magenta Light for Anthony Cummings.
"That was a great effort. He pinched a nice break on them and showed plenty of fight in the end," Rawiller said.
Jockey Hugh Bowman, who rode Guillotine, said his horse simply ran out of condition after coming from the back of the field only to fade over the closing stages.
Cummings is hoping Magenta Light will develop into an AJC Australian Derby contender.
Rawiller, who relocated from Melbourne to join Waterhouse, was full of praise for Waterhouse's effort to prepare Ultimate Risk to win over 1500m on a heavy track at his first start.
"That's the difference between this stable and the rest in Australia, that was a very good training performance," Rawiller said.
Ultimate Risk, who jumped from barrier one, led early and pinched a break on runner-up and favourite Sportsground about 400m from home.
The 3-year-old tired over the closing stages but held on to score by a long-neck over the gallant Sportsground with Monte Ichiban a short-head away third.
South African jockey Jeff Lloyd made his Australian debut in Ultimate's Risk's race, finishing seventh on Captain Oats.
