Racing: Greytfilly to be schooled

Greytfilly will undergo a refresher course in the barriers after a luckless defeat at the Gold Coast yesterday.

For the second time in a row, Greytfilly was slow to leave the barriers before finishing strongly to deadheat for second to Magic Millions aspirant Global Dream in the Hot Tomato Ladies Day Handicap (1200m).

Greytfilly was also slow to jump at her previous start at Doomben but trainer Robert Heathcote is confident the filly can make the necessary improvement before the Magic Millions on January 12.

"We'll do some work with her at home to get her to come out of the barriers cleanly, without driving her mad," Heathcote said.

Greytfilly was having her first start in blinkers, which, said jockey Ryan Wiggins, contributed to her tardiness.

"Today was always going to be the test to see how she'd jump with the blinkers but hopefully we can sort that out," he said.

"Coming to the turn I thought she'd only run sixth at best but she just flew home and probably wins in a few more strides."

Chief steward Allan Reardon said no action would be taken against Greytfilly because the ground she lost at the start was less than the winner Global Dream, who was also racing in blinkers for the first time.

Global Dream's trainer Tony Gollan was relieved the filly's Magic Millions position has been confirmed with her prizemoney boosted to A$44,000, which places her 15th in the order of entry.
