Denman, ridden a treat by Kerrin McEvoy, gave former champion galloper Lonhro his first Group One winner as a stallion when he powered home to win the A$1 million ($1.23 million) Golden Rose at Rosehill yesterday.
The Peter Snowden-trained Denman has now won the last five of his six starts for prizemoney in excess of A$830,000.
McEvoy allowed Denman plenty of time to find his feet in the 1400m feature. Turning for home, the colt reeled in the leaders and shot to a winning lead and although Trusting ran home strongly for second, Denman was simply too good. Stryker was third.
Meanwhile, a solid betting plunge was landed when Madame Pedrille won the Listed Sheraco Stakes where glamour filly and favourite More Joyous finished third.
Madame Pedrille was backed from $3.50 to $2.90. She beat Seeking Attention ($41) by 1-3/4 lengths while More Joyous, who eased from $2.10 to $2.45, was a neck away.
