If Meatloaf was right and two out of three ain't bad, one out of two is only a slightly lesser percentage.
The Stephen Autridge-Jamie Richards Te Akau stable missed out with Gingernuts despite a huge effort on his part in the A$2 million Australian Derby, but classy filly Melody Belle put a group one trophy on the table with a runaway $225,000 Manawatu Sires Produce victory.
"She had it won a long way out," a delighted Autridge told the Herald yesterday morning.
This was overall the deepest form Sires Produce of recent years and Melody Belle was totally dominant. And the best result is despite it being just her fifth race appearance and on a testing track the Commands filly has pulled up brilliantly.
What a result for Haunui Farm's shuttle stallion Iffraj. Melody Belle is bred from an Iffraj mare Meleka Belle and this win came within hours of Jon Snow, by Iffraj, winning the Australian Derby. Two weeks after another son of Iffraj in Gingernuts took the Rosehill Guineas.
