BRISBANE - A trip to New Zealand for Funtantes is in doubt while the summer carnival campaigns for other contenders are in disarray after disruptions caused by Queensland's weather.
A fierce storm which lashed Eagle Farm on Saturday during the running of the sixth race forced officials to call the meeting off with the listed Gold Edition Plate and group three George Moore Stakes the casualties.
The George Moore had been postponed from the previous week after a similar storm which forced that meeting's abandonment after only two races were held.
New fields will be called for the Gold Edition Plate which will be added to the Doomben meeting on Saturday while Racing Queensland has officially abandoned the George Moore Stakes.
Leading trainer Rob Heathcote had hoped to send Funtantes across the Tasman for the Railway Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on New Year's Day if she won the George Moore Stakes.
"I'm not sure what we're doing with her now but I'd say the New Zealand trip is in serious jeopardy," Heathcote said.
Heathcote has never won a group one but went close when Woorim finished third in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in Melbourne during the spring.
Trainer Tony Gollan will run Spirit of Boom in the Vo Rogue Plate on Boxing Day after the gelding missed his scheduled comeback in the Gold Edition Plate.
"He's nominated for a class five on Wednesday but my aim all along has been to get him to the Vo Rogue Plate before the Magic Millions Cup," Gollan said.
Stablemate Temple Of Boom will head to the Bat Out Of Hell (900m) at the Gold Coast on January 1 after missing the George Moore Stakes for a second time.
The Bat Out Of Hell will also be the comeback race for top sprinter Burdekin Blues, who has battled injury for most of this year.
