Fritzy Boy showed he was forward for his defence of the group one Mudgway Partsworld Stakes crown when winning an open sprint at Foxton yesterday.
Michael Walker had Fritzy Boy in the trail in the 1200m dash, before easing him out approaching the turn.
He raced to the lead and comfortably held out Maximum Star, who also impressed after being at the back of the field early.
The TAB has kept Fritzy Boy, who remains unbeaten fresh-up, a $6 second favourite for the $220,000 Mudgway (1400m) at Hastings on August 31 at $6.
Mufhasa is a $4 favourite and has attracted a lot of support, TAB head bookmaker Thad Taylor said.
"Fritzy Boy did what we expected him to do today," he said.
While Taylor did not move Fritzy Boy's price for the Mudgway, he trimmed him in $1 to $10 for the second leg of the Hawkes Bay triple crown, the Windsor Park Plate on September 19.
