KEY POINTS:
Extasia would appear to be her own biggest danger at Alexandra Park tonight - because her last start proved her rivals can't beat her.
The highly talented trotting mare is shooting for four wins on end in the night's main trot and will be an anchor for many Pick6 punters.
Her amazing last-start performance was impossible to miss.
Extasia looked to have been knocked out of the race when checked into a break at the 700m mark.
At that point driver Glen Wolfenden simply wanted to get her back trotting and complete the race, hoping to make the best out of a bad situation.
Extasia had other ideas.
Not only did she surprise by quickly falling back into a trot, she tore around the field four wide and then outstayed her opponents for one of the most impressive intermediate grade wins at Alexandra Park in the last few seasons.
"I was surprised she could do that," admitted Wolfenden.
"We have always known she was above average but very few horses can overcome something like that at that stage of a race."
Wolfenden had hoped to start Extasia a few times since but her grade of race has struggled to get off the ground in the last month.
"That is a shame because she is a mare who will thrive on racing but she did go to the workouts last week and was pretty good," he said.
"She could be better heading into this week but looking at the field, she beat most of them after that check last start so she has to be tough to beat again."
At 5, Extasia is still young for a trotter but her raw ability means she could be taking on the best in the business by Christmas.
"She has to because she is getting up in the grades now and, to be honest, I don't think racing up there would hurt her. She is very tough," said Wolfenden.
The one word of warning from Wolfenden for those looking to anchor Extasia tonight concerns the first bend, so often the downfall of trotters in 2700m races at Alexandra Park.
"She goes away well but you just have to nurse her around the first corner sometimes. But she is better following horses out from a handicap when she can do her own thing early, rather than being off the front and trying to race them when they come up behind her early."
With that in mind, Pick6 punters should probably save around 80 per cent of their stake for Extasia but take a second percentage ticket as well, just in case the mare finds a way of getting herself beaten.
