It was win 1999 for Lance O'Sullivan aboard Flying Babe at Ellerslie yesterday, but he could take it no further in seven races during the day.
And Classic Babe put her reputation back on track with a gallant win over an equally game Vinaka.
Classic Babe was caught wide when she finished only seventh on Boxing Day, but co-trainer Richard Yuill feels that was only part of the reason for her defeat.
"Physically, she actually got away on us after racing at Riccarton. She improved with the run here last week."
She heads to the $500,000 Mercedes Classique at Te Rapa next month.
Trudy Collett and Paul Taylor were injured at Ellerslie yesterday.
Collett suffered ligament damage to a leg when she fell from Acuity leaving the straight in race five and was taken to hospital for observation.
Taylor fell from Daanakbar in race 10, being galloped on by runners behind. One leg was badly bruised.
