The aggregate crowd of 397,413 was the second-highest ever over the four days of the Melbourne Cup carnival, trailing only last year's record of 418,069.
Dale Monteith, the VRC's chief executive, said the club was very happy as it had introduced a pre-selling strategy.
"There is no doubt the EI outbreak had an impact in the reduction in attendance from what was a record high last year," he said.
