The fact he is a course winner gives him plenty of points today and with a nice weight he will be super competitive again. One Above is smart and is twice a Te Rapa winner.
Somervell can take the $70,000 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate for the second year running with Fleur De Lune (No8, R7).
It is a very good field this year, but in an exhibition gallop at Te Rapa a few weeks back, Fleur De Lune suggested she might be in career-best form.
She is coming back from a break and some of her best efforts have been when fresh.
Miss Pelear (No9) and Xanadu (No6) are dangers and don't be surprised if Sangster (No1) throws in a big race fresh over a distance normally well short of his best.
Little Alfie Brown (No2, R1) might not be a bad way to start the day. He got shuffled back along the inside in the Taumarunui Cup last start and his fifth was probably better than it looked. This is a lot easier than that race and he has only to shoulder the 58.5kg to be difficult to hold out.
Glitzabeel (No4, R2) turned in two good runs on good surfaces at Ruakaka for a win and a third, but she is equally at home in the wet. The slight worry is that she has not placed in two starts on this track, but if they were just coincidental she can be right in this. Sir Amron (No8) gives Lee Somervell another chance on the card.
The 2kg Bridgette Grylls will take off Wattle Bay's (No1, R3) 59.5kg will be critical. He is still somewhat immature but with the weight relief he can take this. He fought extremely hard to topple smart sort in Sharakti here last start only to lose the race in the inquiry room.
Graeme Sanders has a backup runner to Wattle Bay in Waipipi Lad (No3, R4). He's been knocking behind a couple of good sorts in Kapsboy and Cornelius lately and deserves a turn.
Airman (No2, R5) looked very good winning on this track last start and looked well capable that day of stepping up a grade, which he does this afternoon. Watch for a fresh run from Dorian Grey (No1).
