Wingatui trainer Steven Anderton is confident Slip Into Satin can back up successfully at Wingatui today.
She comfortably won an open 1600m race on a good track there on Sunday, but is reverting to 1400m today in a Rating 90 event.
"She has come through the race good and Ihave backed her up twice before and she has won both times," Anderton said.
The most recent was at Gore over 1355m in January after she had finished fourth there five days earlier.
"She could have started in the Rating 85 mile [today] but she had 58kg and she has 55.5kg over the 1400m."
He feels Slip Into Satin should be able to find good footing if the track cuts up on the inside. There was 2mm of rain on Tuesday and the going is rated as dead compared with good on Sunday.
Diamondsareforever is backing up in the open 2200m after a win over that distance in a Rating 70 on Sunday. His Tauranga trainer Stuart Manning, who remained at Wingatui, was comfortable with a rain-affected track.
Diamondsareforever has gained nine of his 10 wins on tracks rated dead to heavy. The 9-year-old gelding came again after being headed under 57kg on Sunday.
Diamondsareforever has won three races for Manning since joining his stable in the winter of 2008.
"Craig Amrein asked me to take him to see if I could turn him around. He had not taken to steeplechasing," Manning said. "He won for me at Te Rapa three weeks later."
Diamondsareforever won the 2007 Hawkes Bay Hurdles and four other races when trained by Amrein and Yvette Keoghan.
Manning has yet to hurdle Diamondsareforever but he is considering the Great Western Hurdles at Riverton next month.
"I schooled him when I was down at Riverton," Manning said.
"He jumped round all the shows during the summer for Amanda Crisp who works for me."
Manning also has Bruce Almighty in the open 2200m today.
"I was disappointed with him on Sunday giving it away over 1600m."
