Beaujolais hit out impressively at Matamata yesterday in her final fast workout for the Governor General's Cup at Avondale tomorrow.
On a good plough, Beaujolais kept up a strong pace once round, the last 1200m in 1:19.4 and 600 in 37.8.
The quickest over 1200m was Trephina in 1:15.8, the 1000 with Tochango in 1:2 and the 600 in a smart 36.8.
Marton Cup candidate Esprit De Corps galloped well over 1200m in 1:22.6, the 600 in 40.2. Clintwood went freely once round, the final 600 in 38.8.
Kensington Flyer wound up for the Marton meeting with 1200m in 1:22.4, the 600 in 39.4. Imax cut out 1200 with Top Cat in 1:19.8, the 600 in 38.5.
La Buster and Dubrovnik showed dash over 1200m in 1:18, the 600 in 36.8. Cheeky Baby ended some pacework with a 600m sprint in 40.6.
Danamite did an easy 1200m in 1:22.8, the 600 in 40.2. Le Danse covered the same ground in 1:18 and 38.2.
At Te Awamutu, No Alimony showed her fitness for the Marton Cup during a round of an easy course proper, the last 1000m in 1:5.5 and 600 in 36.4.
Elevenses and Dominant also covered a lap, the 1000 in 1:6.7 and 600 in 37.2. Sound The Alarm ran 1400m in 1:39.2, the 600 in 38.2.
Just Aqua and Nostromo took 1:6.2 for 1000m, the 600 in 37.6. Russian Defence strode 1000 comfortably in 1:12.4 (42).
Race rivals Gypsy Moth and Bel Air looked a quinella prospect at Avondale judged by their training at Takanini.
Gypsy Moth worked on the plough before rain affected the footing and was going keenly at the finish of 1600m, the last 1200 in 1:20.4 and 600 in 38.2.
Pyramus did 1000m well within himself in 1:6.8, the 600 in 39.4. Galloping 3m out on a good grass, Bel Air recorded 1:2.2 for the last 1000m of 1200, the 600 in 37.9.
Flying Babe showed she had trained on well since the Auckland Cup carnival by dashing 1000m in 1:1.5, the 600 in 38.2.
Blessing took time honours 10m out on a good No 2 grass at Cambridge with 1:4 for 1000m, the 600 in 38.
Cornflake, preparing for the Wellington Cup carnival, came in freely from the 1000m in 1:5, the 600 in 38. Star Angel and Rice Terrace went 1000 in 1:6.8, the 600 in 40.8.
Three Kings, who races at Avondale, sprinted 600m in 38.2.
Icey Red worked best on a slsuhy sand at Avondale, shading Merchant Banker over 800m in 50.3, the 600 in 36.3.
The River Express was allowed an easy 800m in 53.3, the 600 in 39.8.
Nudge and Punga Barclay galloped pleasingly 25m out on a firm course proper at Te Aroha, taking 1:4 for 1000m, the 600 in a smart 35.7.
On a slow plough, Majoubah was confined to pacework. Any rain would help her chance in the Marton Cup.
