Fresh from his success in the Gore Cup, Brent Barclay rates Bellaholmes and Gentle Billie as the best of his 10 drives at Winton today, a meeting which hosts a $50,000 Pick Six.
Barclay moved to 142 wins when he guided Jim Dandy to victory in Wednesday's cup. His season's tally stands at 17.
Bellaholmes will try to stretch her unbeaten sequence to three in the second heat of the Southland Oaks Series.
The Holmes Hanover filly won the first heat in a leisurely 3:14.3 (2400m stand) at Winton seven days ago.
"She won nicely both times. She's tough and got a bit of speed," Barclay said.
Gentle Billie, plagued by pneumonia earlier in the season, bounced back to winning form in a class one-two mobile mile at Winton last week and is one of the main hopes in race seven.
Barclay's other drives today are Possible Chance (Jetbet 13, race one), Eweburn Whiz (Jetbet 7, race one), Dan's Mate (race two), Hauling (race three), Bonny Beaudan (race four), Woodburn Flyer (race five), Raj Kapoor (race six) and Cannon Smoke (race eight).
"Possible Chance is working OK, but there's a bit of form in his race. He'd be a place chance," Barclay said.
Eweburn Whiz might be upset material as his training has improved.
"Dan's Mate needed the run at Forbury (December 16) and he worked good on Tuesday.
"Hauling's had sore feet and we've changed some gear. He'd be a place show."
Two-year-old Bonny Beaudan won a non-tote at the Wairio meeting at Winton last week. He scored by five and a half lengths in 2:17.5 (1700m stand).
