Levin owner-trainer Kay Lane continues her Australian pilgrimage with her talented galloper Figurehead on target for another Melbourne Cup bid.
Figurehead and his younger sister Figurante have stayed on in Brisbane since campaigning at the Queensland winter carnival and are due to head south to Melbourne early next month.
Lane campaigned the pair in Brisbane and Melbourne last year and has followed a similar path this year.
Figurehead's Queensland campaign was cut short after he knocked a leg and damaged a splint bone. He is now fully recovered and is due to resume in a 1400m welter race at Eagle Farm in Brisbane next Wednesday.
Lane said Figurehead may back up over 1800m at Eagle Farm a week later before heading to Melbourne where his programme would probably be similar to last year with races likely to include the Cranbourne Cup, which he won last year, and the Naturalism Stakes, in which he finished second.
The winner of more than $380,000 in stakes, Figurehead's best effort in Brisbane this winter was his second to Integrate in the $A100,000 ($131,580) Labour Day Cup (2020m) at Doomben. He only had two further starts before being sidelined.
Figurante, who made her debut at Sandown in Melbourne last September, has reaped stake earnings of $84,910 from her nine starts to date.
She notched her first win at Wanganui in March before returning to Queensland where she recorded one win and a third.
Figurante has been nominated for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups but Lane said she may opt to target fillies and mares races in Melbourne.
