A spectacular fall took the shine from an authoritative win by One Dream in the $100,000 New Zealand Sires' Stakes Fillies' Championship at Alexandra Park last night.
One Dream went to the lead in the early stages of the 1700m group-one race for 2-year-old pacing fillies and held on by a length to beat Scotlynn Jane and Spicey.
But with about 1200m to run there was a fall back in the field which resulted in about five horses being taken out of action.
Among those affected were Reality Check, Rhythmic Rose, Suvarno Hanover, Running On Faith and Geld Bromac.
One driver was catapulted high into the air.
It did not appear any of the horses or drivers was seriously injured.
One Dream, a $2.90 second favourite, is trained at Pukekohe by David and Clare McGowan and was last night having her third start.
The Dream Away bay had finished second at her debut before winning a heat of last night's race in impressive fashion at Alexandra Park back on May 12.
Runner-up Scotlynn Jane raced in the parked out position but in her first start on a right-handed track did not help her chances by lugging out in the home straight.
The winner, One Dream, actually came out on Scotlynn Jane in the straight but that was mainly to avoid one of the fallen runners that was still on the ground.
Third-placed Spicey was 2- 3/4 lengths away after leading early and then trailing the winner.
The punter's favourite, Top Tempo, was 1- 3/4 lengths away fourth after having her chance from three back on the inside.
