The Fair Tax Group, the body lobbying for change to the taxation on racing, will be going all out to make its point known at the Hawkes Bay Racing Club's premier raceday on Saturday, August 27.
Following on from the Fair Tax labelling on horses' rumps at race meetings over the past month and the political seminar held in Hamilton on June 16, the group now intends raising its profile even higher.
The feature race at Hastings on August 27, the group one Mudgway Partsworld Stakes, will have a one-off name change and be known this year as the Mudgway Fair Tax Stakes.
The $200,000, 1400m, weight-for-age race has become one of the prestige events on the New Zealand racing calendar and is seen as an ideal medium to further the Fair Tax Group's cause.
Race sponsor Wayne Mudgway says he is delighted to be able to assist the Fair Tax Group in its endeavours.
"It is a great opportunity to support something that is going to, hopefully, bring about change that will benefit the entire racing industry," Mudgway said.
"As a racehorse owner, breeder and a major race sponsor, I know only too well the plight of the racing industry and the need for taxation to be on a level playing field with other forms of gambling."
