Pacing sensation Elsu will be seen in action at the Alexandra Park workouts in two weeks' time and trainer Geoff Small could not be happier with the 5-year-old.
Elsu captured the imagination of New Zealand sporting fans following his recent four-race clean sweep of the Inter Dominion Pacing Series at Alexandra Park culminating with his explosive victory in the $750,000 Grand Final on March 18.
Small has one more race marked down this season for Elsu - the $100,000 City Of Auckland Free-For-All, on May 6 at Alexandra Park.
"Elsu's training very well here at home and I trained him over two miles in around 4.30 the other day and he'll have a more serious hit out at the workouts in two weeks' time," said Small.
"If need be he could have another run at the workouts before the $100,000 race at Auckland on May 6 just to make sure he's fit and ready for that race.
"I did give him an easy time after winning the Inter Dominion Grand Final and he's the type of horse who can drop his fitness levels a little if you let him.
"He's done an outstanding job this season and since his win in the Auckland Cup he has seemed to have lifted to another level of achievement on the racetrack.
"The race at Auckland will be his last for this season and he'll have a good break then I'll bring him back into training with the focus switching to the New Zealand Cup in Christchurch in November.
"Elsu has finished second in the New Zealand Cup over the past two years behind Just An Excuse and it's a race I'm very keen on winning as I grew up in Christchurch and it's my home town."
