Bruce Marsh threw out the tip for Mr Esteem at Ellerslie tomorrow when he scratched his classy sprinter from yesterday's Bayer card.
Marsh prefers the Pinto Sprint at Ellerslie to the Listed Levin Stakes, for which Mr Esteem would have been very competitive.
"I didn't really want him beating a couple of those higher in the handicap, but apart from that I feel the Ellerslie race is better for him," said Marsh.
"He is proving to be better the right-handed Ellerslie way than he is left-handed."
Mr Esteem proved that when he flashed home late to finish a luckless second to Jaiapeno at Ellerslie three starts back after starting from gate No11 in a 12-horse field.
His two subsequent starts left-handed at Trentham and Awapuni have not been quite as good.
"He's got a decent barrier draw this time (No3)," said Marsh.
Mr Esteem has joint topweight of 58kg, but with only 3kg to the bottom of the handicap, his task is not too tough.
Indian Chant, who is equal topweight, and Last Flight could be the dangers. Indian Chant made up a lot of ground at Counties last week.
