It's fair to say Ruakaka trainer Donna Logan is not sure what she's going to do with El Presidente, dashing winner of Saturday's $60,000 Winning Edge Presentations at Tauranga.
Whether or not she takes the horse to the Queensland winter carnival.
Or even whether that will be her decision.
Logan, who do-trains with Dean Logan and Chris Gibbs, races El Presidente with Whangarei GP Dr John Sprague and his wife Karyn.
They are not keen to rush the emerging stayer into the top bracket in Australia, but may look at the Ipswich Cup on June 19, towards the end of the Brisbane carnival. Then the horse may be sold before they get a chance to get that far.
"There was a lot of interest in him before Saturday, but I told the potential buyers that if they didn't have him vetted we were going to run him in this race because it's too much money [$60,000] to turn your back on with R90 horses," said Logan.
The Logan and Sprague association goes back a fair way.
"Way back, I had a mare El Fugaz that won the Matamata Cup.
"I wanted to breed from her, but I had no money at the time and John had a share in Lord Ballina.
"He said you put up the mare and I'll put up the stallion service and we'll go half each." The pair bred good-quality performers like big-winning El Duce and El Perez and bred from the fillies.
El Ardiente, dam of El Presidente, is one of those fillies.
"We've had to be patient with him because he's a big horse, his racing weight is around 550kg." El Presidente, who was well rated by Jason Collett, has yet to be tried beyond 1600m where his future probably lies.
