Brave Cheyenne, working late when the ground was well chopped up, galloped 1200m in 1:21.7, the 600 in 41.7. Classic Pom strode 1200 in 1:23.8, the 600 in 41.3.
Tio Lavender set off from the 1000m well ahead of Showella but finished only a length in front in 1:6.1, the 600 in 39.4. On Vacance and Playful Fingers began slowly at the 1000m and finished in 1:7.3, the 600 in a quick 38.7.
Sir Albert impressed in his semi-final trial for Hastings when he pinged over 600m on an easy No 1 grass at Avondale in 36.4.
Lenny Lights shaded Miss Cottonblossom at the end of 800m in 50, the 600 in 35. The River Express dawdled early over 1000m but powered home from the 600 in 36.2 to return 1:6.6.
On the sand, which was slow, Banzai ran 600m in 38.8. Diamond Sands did 800 in 55.9, the 600 in 41. Celtic Flame took 1:30.9 for 1200 and 44.3 from the 600.
Ellerslie candidate Country Fair was not after time but looked in first-class order when covering 1400m on a soft No 2 grass at Te Rapa in 1:36.8. He came from the 600 in 43.3.
Paden showed her readiness for Ellerslie with a smart 1000m on a good plough at Te Aroha in 1:3, the 600 in 38.1. Mi Dynasty went an easy 1000 in 1:7, the 600 in 42.2.
At Pukekohe, Star Wars produced a sharp 600m on a soft grass in 38. Alcibiades looked in good heart for Ellerslie, covering 1000m in 1:10, the 800 in 54.6 and 600 in 41.1.
Fog obliterated all gallops at Te Awamutu and Cambridge.
