KEY POINTS:
Gee I Jane's task to win the group two Concorde at Avondale today under 58kg clear topweight looks daunting, but she has plenty of ticks on her scoresheet.
She comes out of a very suitable No 2 barrier. Sprinters manage weight better than stayers because they're carrying it at speed for much shorter distances and Gee I Jane is a big, strong mare.
But the biggest tick of all is that she has real class. After periods of six months or more, it's easy to forget just how good some horses are.
If you are thinking of backing Gee I Jane today pull out the video of her winning the group one Telegraph at Trentham in January and of her remarkable second to La Montagna in the Stradbroke at Eagle Farm in June.
You won't have any problems with the short odds after watching those two.
The only foreseeable problem is that this race is always run at a hectic tempo and horses start dropping off quickly around the home turn.
If Gee I Jane is back on the rail from her barrier draw she could strike traffic problems.
As a long-striding mare who needs racing room, that could be disastrous. But with clear space she should be running at the leaders at the 200m.
Orpington easily won a recent barrier trial on his home track at Cambridge and is forward for a crack at this from an inside barrier.
Kay's Awake has an awkward barrier, but she is an emerging sprinter who can still be right in this finish.
