Dunedin jockey Paula Dowling was in good spirits in Dunedin Hospital yesterday after a race fall at Gore in which she suffered crushed vertebrae and a fractured pelvis.
"She can move but when she turns on her side it's sore," Dowling's mother, Kay Anderton said.
"She seems quite bright and just needs rest."
Dowling, aged 21, was examined at Gore Hospital after Saturday's fall before being flown by helicopter to Dunedin.
Dowling's mount Morphun and Imperial Flight were brought down by Decoration, who slipped and fell at the 700m in race three, a 1000m event for maidens.
Imperial Flight's rider, Leda McNeilly, escaped injury, but Terry Moseley, who rode Decoration, suffered a swollen right arm and sore right thigh.
Moseley said: "It wasn't the track; just one of those things that can happen."
None of the horses were seriously injured.
