Trainer Robbie Laing is threatening to "bench" Caulfield Guineas prospect Eclair Fastpass should he fail to shrug off what he describes as a B-grade tag.
Laing has a high opinion of the youngster and is trusting jockey Dwayne Dunn to get the best out of him in Saturday's Listed Doncaster Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
"He has to win with ease to justify running in the Guineas," Laing said.
Dunn is having his first ride on Eclair Fastpass and replaces Craig Newitt who is suspended after steering the Fastnet Rock gelding at his last three starts.
An encouraging second to Starspangledbanner in the Vain Stakes (1200m) followed by a third to that horse and Tollesprit in the McNeil Stakes (1200m) seemed to have Eclair Fastpass on track for the Guineas.
Last start he contested the Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield and was beaten two lengths when finishing sixth to Demerit.
The Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is shaping as one of the strongest in memory headed by Denman at A$3.20, Trusting (A$4.50), So You Think (A$7.50) and Manhattan Rain (A$8).
Eclair Fastpass, who has raced only five times for a debut win at Sale, is at A$41.
