Darci Brahma's walk towards the $300,000 2000 Guineas will be decided when Crusoe goes around at Avondale tomorrow.
Darci Brahma has disposed of most of the opposition he will face at Riccarton, with the exception of the hugely talented Crusoe.
"Yes, it's been a deliberate ploy to dodge Darci Brahma," said Auckland owner Bob Emery. "We've wanted a lead as quiet as possible into the Guineas and we hope we get that at Avondale tomorrow."
Emery does not say Crusoe will beat Darci Brahma, but nor does he discount that possibility.
"I believe Darci Brahma has had an easy ride into Christchurch. The way the Wellington race worked out the other day, he didn't really have any opposition."
Crusoe looked a real deal Guineas contender last season when winning 1200m and 1500m juvenile races at Te Rapa and Te Aroha.
His barrier trial form before his season debut victory at Hastings last start was sensational.
"He's in superb condition," said Emery. "Everything we've planned has pretty much fallen into place, with the exception of having to run at Hastings rather than Ellerslie because of a wet track."
Meeting the more experienced horses is never easy for a spring 3-year-old and Emery is aware his horse will get back in running.
