SYDNEY: Victorian trainer Lee Freedman has declared Dane Julia is as good as he can possibly get her ahead of the mare's bid to win a third group one in as many countries today.
Dane Julia is already a group one winner in South Africa, where she originally raced, and also in New Zealand after winning the Breeders Stakes (1600m) at Te Aroha last April.
Both her elite victories have come racing the Sydney way of going and that is a key reason why Freedman has specifically targeted the A$600,000 ($772,000) Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill with her.
Given those factors, Freedman is looking forward to seeing what the mare is capable of.
"I'm thrilled with her," Freedman said on Thursday.
"She raced great here [at Warwick Farm] the other day and she worked super on Tuesday morning.
"I'm really looking forward to the Coolmore, I think she'll run good.
"We pitched her whole campaign around Sydney and Brisbane. She loves racing this right-handed way, it's her preferred way of going, and we planned around being third-up into the Coolmore and everything has worked really good so far."
Dane Julia received 53.5kg when weights were released on Tuesday with Typhoon Tracy getting the maximum topweight of 61kg.
Trainer Peter Moody elected not to accept with the four-time group one winner and Dane Julia will now carry 54kg with the weights being raised 0.5kg.
Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder is the new topweight with 57kg. Freedman elected to apply blinkers to Dane Julia last start and they paid dividends with the mare carrying 57kg to win the Listed Wiggle Quality (1400m) at Warwick Farm.
He has elected to keep the blinkers on the mare for the Coolmore.
"She raced good with them on, there'll be good speed in the Coolmore and I want her to take a good position early so the blinkers will help her do that," he said.
Dane Julia is one of three runners for the trainer at Rosehill on Saturday with Speed Gifted to contest the Ranvet Stakes and The Comedian, who worked with Dane Julia on the course proper at Warwick Farm on Tuesday, to run in the Phar Lap Stakes.
Glyn Schofield, the successful pilot last start, will again ride Dane Julia in the Coolmore.
