Racing: Cup workout at Matamata impresses

Beaujolais looked cherry ripe when working out yesterday for the Awapuni Gold Cup tomorrow.

On a good plough at Matamata, Beaujolais strode 1200m in fine style in 1:23, quickening for the final 600 in 39.1.

Bahira also covered 1200m, taking 1:24, the 600 in 38.6. Gem Dancer cruised 1200 in 1:27, speeding up from the 600 in 39.6.

Sierra Dane wound up for the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes with 1200m in 1:25, the 600 in 39.7. Race rival Country Class went quicker over 1200 with Electrico in 1:21.3, the 600 in 36.

Flash Red dashed 1000m in 1:3.9, the 600 in 36.5. Kensington Flyer ambled over 1200 in 1:32.3.

Whistling Gypsy took 1:26.5 for 1200m and 41.4 from the 600. Arousing went 1000 with Rodrigo Rose in 1:9, the 600 in 38.5.

Stablemates Nasa Pearl and Governor's Pearl matched strides in a smart 1000m on a good sand at Cambridge in 1:6, the last 600 in 38.

Avondale candidate Roll Your Own ran 1200m comfortably in 1:22, the 600 in 40.2. Classic Suzy strolled 800 in 58. Our Mr Bowe covered 1000 in 1:7, quickening from the 600 in 38.6.

On the inside of a firm No 2 grass, Pure Steel looked in great order when galloping 600m in 38.2. Poppies Last was not after time over 600 in 42.5.

Cool Sound ran 1000m with Painted White, easing short of the line to finish in 1:8. Sovereign sped 600 in 35.2.

Avondale course specialist Krystal Klear showed her fitness for tomorrow with a smart 1000m on a deep plough at Takanini in 1:2, the 600 in 38.4.

Sokool was allowed an easy 1000m, taking 1:9.2, the 600 in 40.3. Stablemate Gwen's Rules did a steady 600 in 43.5.

Ebony Honor, a trials winner on Monday, ran 1200m in 1:21.2, the 600 in 39.5. Volkman paceworked for about 2000 and hit out more freely from the 600 in 45.

Strike Zone impressed as an improver for Avondale when galloping 800m on a firm course proper at Pukekohe in 51.9, the 600 in 38.9.

Pridham went the same distance on the No 1 grass in 51.6, the 600 in 38.2. Maserati and Meteorite ran 1000 in 1:5, the 600 in a steady 39. Status Quo did similar work in 1:6 and 38.3.

On the fibre track, The Practice cut out 1000m in 1:6, the 600 comfortably in 40.7.

Complacent and Party Princess wound up for Avondale impressively with 1400m on a good plough at Te Awamutu, the final 1000 in 1:2.9 and 600 in 36.8.

Also over 1000m, Kickit took 1:3.8 (35.5); Blue Juice, 1:4.7 (37.6) and The Immortal One, 1:3.9 (36.5).

On an easy No 1 grass, 5m out, DanceInTheSun ran 800m in 51.3, the 600 in 35.9. Manawatu Sires' Produce hope Lady Dehere was restricted to pacework and a breeze down the straight. She looked superb.

At Te Rapa, Esther Mary excelled with 1000m on a good plough in 1:3.4, the 600 in 37.8.

Mattstar went 1000m in 1:6 (39) and Noble Prospect in 1:2 (38). Ismalia stretched out well from the 1000 in 1:6, the 600 in 39.2.

Arlanda cruised 600m in 39.1. Avondale candidate Ask The Dancer was not asked for his best over 1000 in 1:6.7, the 600 in 39.5.

Avon Grosve indicated good prospects again on her home track when galloping 1000m on a deep plough at Avondale. She returned 1:5.9, the 600 in 38.1.

Shading was keen to go faster than 39.8 for 600m. Siana Ice looked in excellent order when cantering once round.
