Trainer Kevin Hughes is concerned about the weight for Dimondsontheinside in the $40,000 Dunedin Gold Cup at Wingatui today.
Dimondsontheinside has 57.5kg in the 2400m event, 0.5kg below topweight Likes To Rule and 4.5kg above the minimum.Terry Moseley is back aboard Dimondsontheinside.
"The weight may be a bit of a problem, but if she got a soft trip she should be right in it," Hughes said.
A Dunedin Cup winner has not carried more than 57kg since Show Gate mastered 60.5kg in 1976. De Montfort carried 57kg in 1999.
Moseley won the 2003 Dunedin Cup on Torlesse with 56kg.
Likes To Rule won the Livingspace Stakes (2070m) on a slow track with 53kg at Wingatui on December 26. She carried 0.5kg more to win the Clare Memorial Cup (2000m) at Omakau nine days later.
Jan Cameron, who has won the Dunedin Cup twice, has the mount on First Wind.
Shane Kennedy and Ricky Carston, the Riccarton trainers of First Wind, have had fine success this season with Italia and Hurrah. First Wind has not won a race since March, but he was a strong-finishing second to Taikorea at Woodville.
