Master trainer Bart Cummings racked up Group One win 253 when Michael Cahill steered Russeting to victory in the Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm yesterday.
Russeting, a 4-year-old mare by Commands, was having her first start for Cummings after being bought by stable clients at the recent National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.
"I think she cost about A$300,000," stable spokesman Reg Fleming said. "She's cheap now."
Russeting was handy all the way and she dug deep in the final stages to hold off Prima Nova and Subtle Cove.
Hume will be heading for Melbourne after winning the Tattersall's Cup (2200m).
Scott Galloway produced a masterly display on Hume when he held Larry Cassidy on runner-up Bellagio Wynn in a pocket. New Zealand mare Veloce Bella found the line gamely to finish third.
