Racing: Conners puts team on trial for Queensland

Clarry Conners boasts a strong team at Rosehill today when all of his runners will be on trial for trips to Brisbane.

First off for the Warwick Farm trainer is filly Dorf Command in the Camden Hire Handicap (1300m).

Conners has the 3-year-old nominated for next Saturday's group one BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben as well as other Brisbane majors like the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke.

Dorf Command comes into the race after running fourth to Aichi in the Gosford Guineas on a heavy track on April 23, a race Conners admits was the wrong call for the filly.

"I should have run her in the fillies' race at Randwick a couple of days later," Conners said.

"The Gosford track was too slow for horses coming from the back."

The race Conners says he should have run Dorf Command in was the James HB Carr Stakes (1200m) won by Silently who defeated Melbourne visitor Ortensia.

Earlier, Dorf Command finished second to Ortensia in the PJ Bell Handicap (1200m) with Silently running fourth.

"We've nominated her for the big races but there are plenty of other black-type options for her up there," Conners said.

"She's only had the three runs back, so she's got another three or four in her I would imagine."

Stablemate Kick 'N Chase lines up in the Marshall's Motors Handicap (1400m) and is backing up after running ninth to Noble Edict over 1200 metres at Randwick on Anzac Day.

"He got back too far from his wide alley [11] on a soft track but he's drawn a good alley [one] and that's why we've decided to run him again.

"The 1400 metres will suit and it looks a pretty good race, so we'll have a fair idea of what is to come.

"There's a couple of races for him near the end of the carnival."

Zabeel mare Sunday Lady is flying ahead of her assignment in the De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1800m).

The 4-year-old powered to the line to win comfortably last start over 1900 metres at Canterbury.
