KEY POINTS:
Carnival Riches await Kingda Ka who scored an impressive win at Rosehill yesterday to boost his stocks for races like the A$1 million Golden Rose.
With premiership-leading rider Blake Shinn in blistering form, he won the first four races, Kingda Ka led all the way to win the Tryst Food and Wine Handicap (1400m). Shinn rated Kingda Ka to perfection, daring the others to catch him.
Just when it looked as if they might be gaining in the straight, Shinn shook the colt up and he raced to a dominant 1 3/4 length margin over Tijuana in class record time of 1:24.67, with his last 600m in a blistering 33.46s.
Gai Waterhouse said the $1 million Golden Rose on March 15 was the aim for Kingda Ka who is a 3-year-old entire by the outstanding Flying Spur from Fizzi Lizzi, a half-sister to 1996 South Australian Oaks winner Miss Margaret.
Champion South African jockey Jeff Lloyd broke Shinn's winning run with his victory on the Gary Portelli-trained Helluva Party.
Lloyd is a six-time South African premiership winner. Helluva Party, the favourite, scored a comfortable 1 1/2 length win over Ready To Lift with Spectacular Bird a half-length away third.
Racing first-up since May last year, Helluva Party's win gave Portelli a winning double after his juvenile Belle Soleil won.
Helluva Party's stablemate Weekend In Paris finished last in the race with Shinn on board.
