BRISBANE - Waikato trainer Bill Borrie has had to provide Queensland stewards with a veterinary clearance for Miss Potential to run in Saturday's Stradbroke Handicap.
Borrie delivered a veterinary report to them yesterday afternoon, after a request from chief steward Reid Sanders because of the injuries the durable New Zealand mare suffered in running fourth in the Doomben 10,000 11 days ago.
Borrie said the report said Miss Potential was fit and well.
Miss Potential suffered eight leg wounds after suffering interference soon after the start in the Doomben race and the worst of them was on the off-foreleg on the lower part of the cannonbone.
Borrie was initially worried the injuries could prevent her from having her group swansong in the Stradbroke, but the infection in the off-foreleg had subsided.
He would remain alert as infection could easily flare up again.
Sanders said Miss Potential would be vetted again on race day. Borrie said his mare worked well at the Gold Coast, with her track rider Brooke Swanton declaring it the best gallop since she arrived in Queensland.
Chris Johnson has been confirmed as her jockey and Borrie is hoping for luck at today's barrier draw so she gets her best chance to win a second group one event in Australia.
