Watch for Capebay to prove her last start form all wrong at Avondale today.
You have to wait until the last race, but it might be worth it.
Capebay is a classy type, destined for better things, certainly better than her first-up seventh at Ellerslie last start suggests. That was a better run than it looked.
She got back, was wide on the home bend and took ground off the leaders in the closing stages. She drops 2kg for this race, the field for which is no stronger than the one she struck at Ellerslie.
Nobodywantsme is another improver from Ellerslie and War Paint may be a value runner fresh from a spell.
Class filly Star Satire (No1, R8) could get her expenses for the $150,000 Bayer Classic today.
She was beaten last start when taking on the older horses for the first time, but there were excuses and even though she faces a tough task today with clear topweight of 56.5kg, she has the class to match the task.
Classic Babe (No2) can run a big race fresh and My Happiness (No4) can improve on her last-start fourth.
If Blue Dude (No2, R4) can stay handier to the speed than he did on this track last start he should go close.
Avondale is not a track to drop back to the rear on in sprint races and Blue Dude did remarkably well to finish fifth over 1200m two weeks ago after being last then being held up slightly in traffic.
He looks smart and has only to stay in reasonable touch in the slightly smaller field here to take beating.
The 3kg apprentice claim claimed by Alberton Star (No1) will be important. It puts her on a much more comfortable 54.5kg, with which she should prove difficult to hold out.
Krystal Klear (No1, R5) is not well off in the weights, but she still makes a level of appeal in the first leg of the TAB treble. She is carrying her full 58kg while a number of the opposition will be claiming significant allowances off lower weights.
But Krystal Klear's two efforts since resuming have been smart and don't be susprised if she handles the task.
At level weights, Napoleon (No2) would be the obvious danger, but as a 3-year-old, his 57.5kg is an even tougher task than the topweight's. Similarly though, he is very talented. In a race with a huge range of winning chances, Tycoon Jack (No14) is a must for the mutiple bets.
Our Mr Bowie (No4, R7) requires only a bit of luck to go close to winning his first race since moving north from Woodville.
He represents good class, finishes his races off well and was a little stiff at Pukekohe last start. Call Minder (No3) does not excite every start, but is capable of winning this at peak.
What a great race the 1000 Guineas will be at Riccarton.
There is huge confidence in the camp of Diamond Cashel (No4, R7) that she can end her shocking run of luck with a handsome victory.
Certainly she was travelling like a winner until being forced nearly over the running rail at Te Rapa last start and this big, roomy track will suit her racing style better than any other.
But Spring Rain (No9) has the form on the board and will not concede without a fight. It should be a real set-to between these two with Singalong (No8) and Chimera (No3) right there to keep them both honest.
There are few good things to excite on Flemington's massive programme in Melbourne.
But keep an eye on Might And Power's little half brother Matter Of Honour to see if he can keep his form on a roll in the $A500,000 Emirates Stakes.
He has to jump from 1400m to 1600m, but was so impressive leading throughout in fast time on Derby Day, have some confidence he can go close again. Hire is a real danger.
Racing: Class should provide Star Satire's entry to Classic
