They are drawn alongside each other and whoever gets the better run will be the one to beat, although Fight For Glory has the Purdon-Rasmussen factor, which often sees horses produce their absolute best in the richest races.
"Our filly has gate speed so I expect her to go close to leading and she is spot on so she can definitely win," says Dalgety. "But Fight For Glory will be hard, their horses always are".
The race also sees Canterbury harness racing's prodigal son Anthony Butt return from his new home in Victoria to partner Joannes A Delight, although she faces a tricky second-line draw.
Tonight's meeting also brings Auckland star Gold Ace south to tackle the Summer Cup, while some of our best trotters contest the Summer Free-For-All, where the improved Kincaslough is favourite but Jaccka Justy might be the value runner.
While it is a busy weekend of domestic harness racing, with Cambridge holding a rare Friday day meeting, much of the focus will be on Melton and the Victoria Cup.
It has drawn one of the strongest pacing fields of the past decade and Christen Me has barrier six, second from the outside of the front line but Dalgety says that is not a disaster.
"It is better than drawing the second line, for sure," he said.
"It looks like Beautide will lead and I think we can work across the rest of the field to sit parked.
"And then I think we and Beautide can control the tempo to suit us up front.
"Sitting parked won't bother him because he relaxes great out there and I think he might have more raw speed than Beautide, who has had his problems this summer.
"It will be a hard race to win but we sat parked to win the Hunter Cup here last year and I think he can do it again".
That tactical speed probably makes Christen Me the best of the three Kiwi chances in the race, with Terror To Love drawn outside him and Adore Me off the back line.
Both could win if there was a lot of pressure up front and they received the perfect three-wide cart into the race but that requires a lot going right for them and wrong for others.
Follow The Stars is the hottest of the favourites in the three Victoria Derby heats, in which he meets fellow NZ-trained pacers Art Union and My Field Marshall, while Kiwi trotter Realmein and Sheemon clash in a heat of the Australasian Trotting Champs.
Weekend winners
• Highlight: Regardless of who wins, tomorrow night's Victoria Cup is a must see.
• Best bet: On The Town (Addington, R1). Rated highly by trainer and can overcome second-line draw tonight.
• Too good: Speeding Spur (Cambridge, R5): In a different class than his rivals today, Derby-bound.
