The change to a favourable weekend weather forecast is a double result for Envoy's trainer Ken Kelso.
Not only will it provide him with the opportunity to run his firm-track stayer in the Hamilton Caterers at Te Rapa, it also means main rival Etoile Du Nord will almost certainly start in the Taranaki Cup.
Yesterday morning, trainer Mark Walker was certain he would start Etoile Du Nord at Te Rapa because of a soft rating at New Plymouth. But reports that the New Plymouth track was drying rapidly and could get back to easy has Walker changing his mind.
"I've organised a float for Saturday morning, which will not be a issue for the mare, and I'll make up my mind when I see what Friday night's weather is."
Walker has to give Etoile Du Nord a run at one of the venues to fit her for the upcoming Hawkes Bay Cup. Safely through that, the Adelaide Cup is a possibility.
"She won't go right-handed so the Brisbane carnival is not an option."
If Etoile Du Nord heads south, the way should be clear for Envoy to make it three straight. He has 58kg topweight, but has hit the best form of his career and, given a surface close to firm he will take beating.
