Sunline looked as though she meant business in preparation for tomorrow's Auckland Breeders' Stakes at Pukekohe when galloping at Takanini yesterday.
On an excellent No 1 grass, 2m out, Sunline ran 1000m in 1:3.7 and, even though she quickened for the final 600 in 36.7, she had rider Claire Bird going all out to hold her in the finish.
Krystal Klear hit out freely over 1200m in 1:18, the last 1000 in 1:2.3 and 600 in 37.5. She looks to be thriving. Madhuri Dixit ran a brilliant 1000 with Nobodywantsme in 59.7, the 600 in 36.2.
Starina looked good running the last 1200m of 1600 in 1:17.7, the 600 in 38.3. Centennial was firmly held through 800 in 53, the 600 in 38.
One of Sunline's lightweight rivals, Rip It Up, worked as well as any at Matamata, putting plenty of zest into 1000m on a firm sand in 1:3, the 600 in 36.
On a firm all-weather track, King Keitel paceworked twice round and dashed home from the 800 in 51, the 600 in 38. Race rival Call Minder did an easy 1200 in style in 1:18.2, the 600 in 38.8.
On the sand, Oregon Power hit out keenly over 800m in 51.5, the 600 in 37.4. Fireman Sam looked an improver for the Cambridge races at Te Rapa on Sunday when shading Greenstone Charm after 1200 in 1:17.6, the 600 in 36.
Sin Bin and Risk And Reward poured on pace over 1000m in 1:1.8, the 600 in 36.4. Kensington Flyer impressed over 1200 in 1:18.2, the 600 in 37.6.
Malpaso Man covered 1200m easily in 1:20.2, the 600 in 38.4. Stella Artois sprinted 800 in 52.6, the 600 in 39.
Counties Cup lightweight The Immortal One galloped attractively at Te Awamutu, covering a round of a perfect No 1 grass, the last 1000 in 1:1.4 and 600 strongly in 35.7.
Herbie impressed over 1000m in 1:1, the 600 in 35.7. Ynot Pita also showed pace over 1000 in 1:1.6, the 600 in 37.2.
Okiwi Bay looked in excellent order for Pukekohe when running 1000m on a good sand in 1:3.5, the 600 in 38.2.
Others timed over 1000m on the grass included Miss Puzzle, evenly, 1:1.8 (35.6); The Heroine, 1:2.2 (38.6); Mr Brook and Mac 'N' Fries, 1:2.3 (36.1); Party Queen, unextended, 1:3.2 (37); Paterangi Road and Border Calant, 1:4.2 (38) and Sequel, steadily, 1:6.8 (38.5).
At Cambridge, Giovana wound up for the Breeders' Stakes at Pukekohe with 1000m on a firm No 1 grass, the last 600 in a smart 38.2. She looked in excellent order for a return to racing.
On the No 2 grass, 10m out, Medley shaped well over 1000m in 1:3, the 600 in 37.2. Just A Chat and Kingdom Come started easily from the 1000 and quickened for their final 600 in 37.5.
Roma Lad cut out 1000m with a Dinstinctly North gelding in 1:4.2, the 600 in 37.5. Gold Pearl hit out freely over 1200, the 800 in 52.
Cool Sound did well for a stayer to dash 800m in 50.2. Indian Chant was untroubled to run 600 in 37.
The stablemates Noble Prospect and Country Fair impressed on a good plough at Te Rapa, Noble Prospect taking 48.2 for 800m and 36 from the 600, even though not after time. Country Fair went 1000 easily in 1:4.2, the 600 in 37.8.
Te Atatu Chap ended his work on the No 2 grass with 600 in 38.2.
Wai Wai Nui looked fit when covering 1200m on the plough in 1:22, the 600 in 40.3.
She's A Meanie could hardly have been more impressive when galloping 1000m under a firm hold on a good plough at Avondale in 1:14.7, the 600 in 41.1.
War Paint and Sir Albert were smart over 800m in 48.6, the 600 in 34.8. Lenny Lights and Avon Grosve cruised 800 in 54, the 600 in 37.8.
Icey Red looked in great order when running 800m in 51.4, the 600 in 36.9, but is not a certain starter at Pukekohe because of a wide draw.
Diamond Show and Ruby Charm worked attractively on a firm course proper at Pukekohe, dashing 800m in 49, the 600 in 35.6.
Eastminster and Irish Silk also returned 49 for 800m, the 600 in 37. My Boy Terrene again worked well to cover 800 in 50 after quickening from the 600 in 35.5.
Black To Black sprinted 800 with a Grosvenor filly in 50.2, the 600 in 35.9. Winged Victory looked well for Te Rapa when dashing 800 in 49.8, the 600 in 35.9.
Royal Orb worked in dashing style 25m out on a firm course proper at Te Aroha, taking 50.9 for 800m, the 600 in a smart 35.6.
Weight In Gold, freshened since his last-start win at Pukekohe, dashed 800m in 51.8, the 600 in 38.6.
