Superstar mare Winx produced her usual solid trial performance with Hugh Bowman keeping a good hold of the three-time Cox Plate winner at Rosehill yesterday.
Winx was having her first hit-out since her record-equalling third successive Cox Plate victory last October. Settling back in the nine-horse 900m trial, Bowman didn't opt for clear running on the outside of runners in the Rosehill straight. Instead, Winx cantered up behind a wall of horses, including Derby winner Ace High.
Bowman was seen grabbing hold of Winx to ensure she didn't make contact with another runner as she finished a close sixth.
Winx is expected to trial again before she resumes in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 17.
