Racing: Cash pours in on Jameka to win Australian Cup

Punters have jumped behind the Ciaron Maher-trained Jameka to claim the Australian Cup at Flemington today.

The Caulfield Cup winner has had 46 per cent of the money, the Herald Sun reports, three times more than joint favourite Humidor ($4).

"Jameka looks primed to break through third up from a spell and stepping up to 2000 metres where she has never missed a placing in four previous attempts," TAB's Nick Quinn said.

In the Newmarket Handicap, the $3.50 favourite Spieth is the best backed, though there has been good support for Extreme Choice ($5) and Sheidel ($8.50).

Trainer Darren Weir is hoping to add to his six group ones at Flemington this weekend where he has two runners - Stratum Star and Humidor - in the Australian Cup and will saddle up Voodoo Lad in the Newmarket Handicap.

At Randwick in the Coolmore Classic, punters are casting a wide net with Omei Sword ($3.50) attracting 18 per cent, Dixie Blossoms ($7) 11 per cent and La Bella Diosa ($9.50) 9 per cent.

Meanwhile, Zac Purton will ride Teaspoon in the Golden Slipper with Hugh Bowman conceding the weight battle.

The Michael Freedman-trained filly will carry 54.5kg in the A$3.5 million race for two-year-olds on Saturday week at Rosehill.

Teaspoon is one of two fillies Freedman will saddle up in the Slipper with Tommy Berry to stick with Frolic, winner of last Saturday's Reisling Stakes at Randwick.

Berry has won the Slipper twice on Overreach in 2013 and Vancouver in 2015. Purton rode Yankee Rose into second place behind Capitalist in the 2016 Slipper.
