BRISBANE - Captain Sonador will follow arch rival Shoot Out to Melbourne for the spring if he can maintain his form in the Rosehill Guineas next Saturday.
Trainer Roger Milne has ruled out returning Captain Sonador for the Brisbane winter carnival and is keen to tackle the major staying races in Melbourne during the spring.
Captain Sonador has been placed at his only two starts in Sydney, finishing third to Monton in the Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill last month before his third to Shoot Out in the Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 13.
Milne is in the same position as Shoot Out's trainer John Wallace and won't decide until after the Rosehill Guineas whether his colt proceeds to next month's the Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 10.
Captain Sonador's value as a stallion proposition at stud soared after his Randwick Guineas placing.
Milne is still chasing his first group one victory and is keen to give Captain Sonador the opportunity while in Sydney to fulfil his ambition before spelling him to prepare for a spring campaign.
"He's a colt and at some point in the future he will stand at stud," Milne said. "His stud value has increased immensely now that he's Group One placed but it will skyrocket even more if he can win one.
"We're picking up expenses and all is going well," he said.
