SYDNEY - May the force be with you. The famous line from the Star Wars movies has an arresting connotation for Canberra trainer Peter Wiggins.
In Wiggins' case, the force relates to 16 Canberra police officers who, under the Blue Light syndicate, race in-form 5-year-old mare Teutonic.
She will be out to finish on the right side of the law at Goulburn today, when she tackles the Stephen Hazelton Electrical Class 3 Handicap (1400m).
Wiggins, the father of apprentice Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins and Brisbane-based jockey Ryan Wiggins, has several horses part-owned by the police syndicate.
"The boys are great people to train for, they love their racing," Wiggins said yesterday.
"All their horses have a big following, as you can imagine."
Any pressure training for such a high-profile group? "None at all," Wiggins said.
"They all have a ball, just really enjoy racing and there's never any pressure on me."
Teutonic was bought as a tried horse for A$10,000, the Blue Light syndicate owning 25 per cent and Canberra concreter Rob Barnes the remainder.
"She's not a big mare but a little horse with a big heart - a real trier," Wiggins said. "She's not overly endowed with ability but since she's been with me for around 18 months, she's more than paid her way and now we have stepped her up to 1400m, I think she can win more races.
"If she runs up to her recent form, Teutonic is going to be very hard to beat."
The Show A Heart mare scored an impressive win in a 1300m Benchmark 55 event on her home track on January 21, then 21 days later after a short freshen up, was a fast-finishing two lengths second to talented Kriegspiel in a 1400m Benchmark 60 event at Canberra on February 11.
