Paul Moroney walked off Te Aroha racecourse yesterday more than satisfied with the achievements of the Matamata-based training establishment Ballymore Stables.
The training partnership of Paul Moroney and his brother Mike had an outstanding day, winning fives races at four different venues spread across New Zealand and Australia.
Paul Moroney was trackside at Te Aroha saddling up Tinseltown who scored a gutsy half-head win over I'm Isaac in the $150,000 Rotorua Cup. Stablemate Revoke also posted an effortless victory in an earlier event.
Both Moroney runners will head to Brisbane for a large New Zealand-trained assault on the winter carnival.
Down The Bay (Riccarton), Princess Pulse (Adelaide) and Prix Du Sang (Gold Coast) were the other winners.
Tinseltown showed plenty of stamina and fight when it mattered, waging a stride- for-stride battle with I'm Isaac over the closing 100m.
"Full marks to Craig Grylls for a top ride as he settled Tinseltown perfectly one off the fence off the speed as he can prove a difficult horse to handle at times when he gets fired up," said Moroney.
"Craig will retain the ride in the Brisbane Cup and he'll be loaned to Mike to ride a lot of our horses at this carnival.
"Revoke will be heading to Brisbane for a shot at the Queensland Oaks and also possibly the Derby.
"We may end up having three runners in the Queensland Oaks so we'll have to be mindful of how we place them throughout the carnival."
Tinseltown will spell in Brisbane for the winter and then join Moroney's Melbourne stable for spring racing.
Paul Moroney believes the son of Pentire has the class and stamina to make an ideal Melbourne Cup horse.
"We had our doubts about Tinseltown getting the 3200m but he was unlucky in the Auckland Cup so we know he has no problems getting the distance.
"The other thing about this horse is that he is competitive on any type of track whether it be rock hard or slow like it was here at Te Aroha."
All In Black caught the eye powering home solidly out wide to finish fourth - less two lengths from the winner - after covering a stack of extra ground.
CLASS FILLY Juice confirmed she was on track for a winter racing campaign in Brisbane producing a power home stretch sprint to win the $60,000 Rotorua Stakes.
Michael Walker came wide with the 3-year-old on the home turn and quickly reeled in the leaders to win by a half-length over Barinka. Artique was a further 1 lengths away third.
Juice has had plenty of racing this season for New Plymouth trainer John Wheeler competing in the Derby and New Zealand Oaks.
Yesterday's victory confirmed she has not lost the ability to sprint quickly at the end of her races on any track.
