MELBOURNE - Top English stayer Sans Frontieres will miss the Melbourne Cup after Racing Victoria received an email from his trainer.
Sans Frontieres, a last start Irish St Leger winner, was a $16 chance.
RVL operations manager Leigh Jordon told the Herald Sun that he received a short email from trainer Jeremy Noseda, which simply said: "Sorry, Leigh, we're pulling the pin."
Jordon said he could only assume something had gone amiss with Sans Frontieres.
"I spoke with Jeremy two days ago and everything was fine," Jordon said.
"I'd organised a lead horse for Sans Frontieres while he was in quarantine at Werribee.
"It's a real shame as Sans Frontieres was in great form and would have been a definite live chance."
Sans Frontieres was to have arrived in Melbourne tomorrow, along with Bauer, runner-up in the 2008 Cup, and Illustrious Blue.
Dermot Weld's mare Profound Beauty and Godolphin's three Cup candidates - Campanologist, Holberg and Eastern Aria - are to arrive on Tuesday.
