Racing: Brazilian Pulse after another Oaks

Michael Moroney is keen to make the most of Brazilian Pulse's three-year-old season with the filly set to be given a chance to chase a treble of Oaks victories.

With the VRC Oaks already in her keeping, Brazilian Pulse takes another step towards this month's AJC Australian Oaks in today's Group One Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.

And provided the gun filly comes through her Sydney campaign in good order, Moroney is keen to press ahead to Queensland for a two-run campaign aimed at netting the Queensland Oaks.

"You're only three once so we'll take that into consideration," Moroney said. "We'll just see how she comes through. She's going to have four runs - the one in Melbourne and three here in Sydney - and if we think she's still going well enough we'll trek up there [to Brisbane] and probably give her two runs.

"It could be Doomben Roses and into the Oaks or it could be the Doomben Cup into the Oaks. We wouldn't rule the [Queensland] Derby out but at this stage the first thoughts would be to give her one start up there into the Oaks."

Brazilian Pulse is backing up in today's Vinery Stud Stakes and Moroney takes confidence from the spring when the filly won the Oaks five days after taking out the Wakeful Stakes.

Last weekend Brazilian Pulse made a winning Sydney debut when she carried 58kg to a half-length win in the Group Three Keith Nolan Classic (1800m).

She is the A$2.70 favourite for today's fillies feature ahead of the Peter Moody-trained Do Ra Mi who swept past Brazilian Pulse to win the Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last month.

Moroney said Brazilian Pulse was beaten hands down in the Kewney but believes there is enough in Brazilian Pulse's favour this time around to turn the tables, although Do Ra Mi is the horse he fears most.

Do Ra Mi has won three of her four starts this preparation including the come-from-last performance in the Kewney three weeks ago.

"We met her when she was first-up and we had a couple of runs under our belt but we beat her fair and square," Moody said.

"She [Brazilian Pulse] has had that run at the middle distance last time so that will stand her in good stead but we're certainly not going to run and hide from her."
