KEY POINTS:
Opie Bosson is likely to ride Cog Hill in the listed Foxbridge Plate in a fortnight, with the talented galloper expected to improve greatly on his fifth at Ruakaka on Saturday.
Cog Hill ran on fairly to fifth, nearly four lengths behind the impressive winner Who Knows, but never looked as if he would figure in the finish of the open 1300m handicap.
"He would be improved by the outing he had," co-trainer Richard Collett said. "He was not as sharp as we thought he would be and had a real good blow afterwards. They went pretty quick."
Collett's daughter Natasha rode Cog Hill on Saturday and because of the race conditions was unable to claim her apprentice allowance and the 61.5kg plus the race tempo proved too much for him, said Collett.
"He's at the stage now where he is no competitive chance in a handicap race. The last one that he won fresh, he had a trial beforehand and an allowance. He hadn't had a trial this time, but had a gallop between races at Te Rapa."
Collett will look for a senior jockey for the weight-for-age races coming up and said Bosson would be the likely rider in the Foxbridge at Te Rapa on August 18.
